武漢肺炎在全球肆虐，不少國家都已經採取鎖國, 緊急狀態或 Lockdown 等規定，要求民眾留在家中，加上民眾多靠網絡接收疫情資訊，因而導致網絡流量大增。
在歐洲地區，不少提供網絡串流服務的公司都調整串流質素，包括 Netflix, Apple TV+ 等。根據 Bloomberg 的報道，Youtube 亦會採取相同措施，並會在全球實施。
Youtube 會將影片播放的預設質素定為 480p，但仍會提供其他更高解像度的選擇，但用家需要手動調整。報道指這個措施將會在未來數天內推出。
Over the coming days, viewers will at first see YouTube videos in standard definition, the company said. Users will still be able to watch in high definition if they want, but will have to choose to do so.
