根據 HMD 公司的董事長兼首席執行官 Jean-Francois Baril 在 LinkedIn 上的帖子，HMD 過去一直透過授權許可生產 Nokia 手機，現在 HMD 手機業務會有新演進，將會推出自家 HMD 品牌的智能手機。
Baril 表示公司正在建立一個原創的 HMD 品牌，將會有一系列全新的 HMD 品牌移動裝置，並會有令人興奮的新合作夥伴。
I am thrilled to announce a significant milestone in HMD’s evolution – we are establishing an original HMD brand. You can expect to see a new portfolio of HMD-branded mobile devices, as well as Nokia devices and collaboration with exciting new partners.
It has been a great journey as ‘HMD – the home of Nokia phone’ – an exclusive position we have held for the past six years. Now we are ready for the next step on our journey – to enter the market independently as a force to create a new world for telecommunications focused on consumer need.
HMD 在 2016年開始以品牌授權形式推出 Nokia 電話，並於 2017年推出運行 Android 系統的 Nokia 6 智能電話，其後陸續推出不同系列電話，有旗艦高階機，而近年則較集中在中低階市場。至於 HMD 自家品牌手機何時公佈推出還未清楚，而 HMD 手機跟 Nokia 有何分別亦未見透露。相信要再等一些時間，HMD 會有正式公佈。
