早前曾提到，Google 正在为 Android 系统内 相机 API 程式码改进，将会支援 RAW 格式, Burst Mode, Face Detection 等。但在 Android Kit Kat 公布前一个月，Google 决定将这个新 API 抽起，不会加进至 Kit Kat 系统内，所以 Kit Kat 系统内还是采用原有 相机 API。
当时，只是从 Google Code Commit 中查找到这些资料。而最近在 CNET 的一次采访中，Google 就确认正在开发新的 API，并会在稍后的 Android 版本推出，但就未有确实时间表。若果支援 RAW 格式，除了可以将 RAW 相片在电脑执相外。另一个冲击应该是 Photo Editing App，将来手机上的 Photo Editing App 应该会更加强劲，不单只简单的加 Filter, 加相框这些基本功能。

至于一直为人垢病的 Nexus 5 相机，在使用新的 API 亦应可提升质素呢。而 Google 的发言人亦表示留意到有关问题，并正在开发软件升级，可望短时间内推出。
