继 Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One 后，Sony Xperia Z 可能是第三部会推出 Google Edition 版本的手机。
未有透露身份的 Sony 人员表示，Google 跟 Sony 正在合作开发 Xperia Z Google Edition，虽然未有确实推出日期，但手机预计会在7月内公布。按照之前 S4, HTC One Google Edition 做法，Xperia Z Google Edition 估计亦会透过 Google Play Store 推出，并限在美国开售。
现在几间大厂中，曾经生产 Nexus 装置有 HTC (Nexus One), Samsung (Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 10), LG (Nexus 4) 和 Asus (Nexus 7)，而 Motorola 亦已收归 Google 旗下，唯独是 Sony 没有跟 Google 有合作项目。虽然 Google Edition 不属 Nexus 系列，但 Stock Android 再加上由 Google 直接提供更新，Xperia Z Google Edition 也是一个很不错的选择。
